Yes, we have a West Marine location in Cornelius NC Lake Norman!!! Their slogan is “We make boating more fun”. There are over 340 locations in the USA. This is the “go-to” store when you have boat questions and lake questions as well.
If you are looking to buy stuff to fix your boat, watersports, fishing gear, boat engine supplies, sailboat, navigation, wetsuit apparel, or anything that you can use on a boat or PWC in the water, then you need to visit West Marine!
The staff is extremely friendly and they can order almost anything you need since they have tons of catalogs for supplies from fixing your boat to tubes or accessories. We have bought everything from numbers for the skis to the chemical that you dump into the onboard toilet.
Recommendations: My friend Justin is the Assitant Manager at West Marine and he recommended that we join a program called “West Advantage”. This program saves you a ton of money if you purchase lake and boat items frequently throughout the summer. It’s already paid for itself! We also signed up for the Boat U.S. Towing services and trailer towing (in case of emergencies). I have seen a lot of folks break down on the lake and it comes in handy to be able to call someone on your cell phone to come tow you in!
I send a lot of my clients to this store because of the extremely helpful and friendly staff, they KNOW boats and Lake Norman, and also because they have Lake Norman maps, Lake Norman Boating Rules pamphlets, and tons of things to make your boating outings safe and more fun!

Play tennis!!!!!! I didn’t know how to play and had never played about 1 and 1/2 years ago and now I am hooked!!!
I recently joined a tennis group called T2Tennis. There are several groups around the country. I joined the Charlotte group and have played 4 matches with my tennis partner, Debbie Thrap. We have had an amazing time!!! We have been able to meet other ladies and have a lot of fun at the same time!

If you live near the Lake Norman area, you may want to try the Lake Norman Compass Draw or tennis ladder. This will give you a couple weeks to schedule each match at your convenience (singles) and then you can meet different people in a round robin style fashion. With the compass draw, you get to play quite a bit and you get seeded out in compass style fashion whether you win or lose. http://www.lakenormantennis.org/
This is my attempt at being funny, but serious at the same time. I love lake norman and I love the water. Enjoy watching my friends in the videos. “KellySurf” actually broke her finger, had a cast on it, and still surfed “one-armed” almost all summer. WOW!
Wake Surfing.
Fun things to do at Lake Norman (or any lake for that matter).
What? Yes, I said “Wake Surfing”. It’s fun, but it is so uncalifornian. It’s not surfing on the waves at the coast, that’s for sure.
Well, easily put, ” Wake Surfing” is Surfing behind a boat – using the wake that the boat makes to ride the wave.
It’s also catching across the nation like wildfire and becoming really popular in the Lake areas. It’s starting to get really popular in on Lake Norman. I am fortunate enough to have met some new friends that have introduced me to it and it is a blast!!
I had a chance to try it a few times this past summer and started to get the hang of it! And now as I am sitting here listening to the weather forecast call for 38 degree temps tonight, I long for the warm summer days that we spent in the “bath-like” Lake Norman waters, surfing!
I have already been prodded by my “year-round “, lake loving friends about getting a wetsuit because I will surely miss out on those “slightly warmer” winter days going out on their ski boat.
I can’t tell you how much fun it is, so I will show you a video of my friends actually wake surfing behind a big boat with a huge wake. (I don’t recommend you try this if you are not a skilled skier/wake-boarder). These folks have been doing it for a very long time. Notice they throw the ropes back.
They tried a “duo wake surf” for the first time and this is what happened:
Oh, and in case you were wondering, yes, I have pictures of me wake surfing! LOL! The 3rd one is Mac and he is doing it without the rope (which is what you are supposed to do). I eventually got to that point at the end of the summer.
And yes, I gave in to peer pressure! Got the wetsuit too——–

Lake Norman with over 500 miles of shoreline, provides tons of opportunities to play on the lake. One thing that I really enjoy doing is Jet Skiing. However, jet skis don’t prove to be the most reliable vehicles. So….my friends over in Denver are always around to help out!!!

Lake Norman Tennis Ladder – Spread the Word!
The new season starts Dec 15th.
We want this to be our best season yet, but we need your help. The more players on the ladder, the more fun it is. This season we are including doubles ladders, and have expanded the divisions available for singles.
One of the great things about living in North Carolina is being able to enjoy tennis all year long. So get out there and enjoy the weather we’ve been blessed with. Register Now!
The tennis ladder is designed to provide players of all ability levels an opportunity to participate in organized competitive tennis. Scores are based on a system where players get points for making challenges and for playing matches.
A great way to get in competitive match play and stay in shape for the upcoming Compass Draw and spring USTA season.
Play as often as you like (or can). Great for people with busy schedules. Gift card prizes will be awarded to the winner of each division. Only $15 per player ($30 for the team) for the 10 week season. At the end of the season there will be a playoff in each division to determine the winner.
