We have a Fresh Market in Cornelius – Lake Norman NC   Leave a comment

Lake Norman Fresh Market

Lake Norman Fresh Market

It’s been open for a couple months now! I was so happy to hear about this store coming to the area. We had already lost Dean & Deluca’s a couple years ago and I could only go to the Fresh Market when I wanted to drive to the Strawberry Hill location in Charlotte (which was once a year maybe).

I’ve had a chance to shop there a couple times and the prepared foods are as wonderful as I remembered! Fresh herbs, organic veggies, exquisite coffees, natural peanut butter, granolas, baked goodies, and butcher style meats are just some of the things that this store offers!

You must check it out for yourself. It’s located off of Exit 28 on I-77 on Catawba Avenue and Torrence Chapel Road. I haven’t been able to find another type of store like it to compare to. I just know that it’s “FRESH” food. A little pricey but worth a try. They even make dinners to go.

There are events and demonstrations from time to time. See events, directions, and location information here.

Lake Norman Comedy Zone Review   Leave a comment

This is a Review of the Comedy Zone at Lake Norman located in Cornelius, NC

Looking for something fun to do during the week in Lake Norman? Want to be entertained for $10?

Well I go here at least once a month and have a blast!!!

the comedy zone lake norman

“Laugh till is hurts, it’s OK!” is the Slogan of this awesome little place on the 2nd floor of The Galway Hooker Irish Pub in Cornelius. Every Tuesday night features another comedian. You can eat, drink, and laugh your butt off. After the show, you can go downstairs to the bar and hang out with the crowd. It’s a secret fun hangout in Lake Norman.

The Comedy Zone is every Tuesday night starting at 8pm. The tickets are $10 for the show. There is always a mix of comedians every week and sometimes a hypnotist! There are drink specials and a huge selection of martinis. The food they serve is from the Irish Pub downstairs and is amazingly good.

It’s a good idea to get there at 7:30 and order drinks and some food off the full menu. Some of the dinner items I recommend include:

•· Jalapeno Mac & Cheese

•· Shepherd’s Pie

•· Grilled Chicken Popsicles

•· Spinach & Artichoke dip

  • Try the Bread pudding for dessert!

Cheap Lunch and Dinner in Lake Norman – Lake Norman Real Estate Restaurant Review   Leave a comment

This is a review of K&W Restaurant in Cornelius, NC and Statesville, NC. I have eaten here for several years and it’s always the same quality of food and atmosphere. Don’t be afraid, try it!

Gotta cut your lunch and dinner bill down due to the decline in real estate sales? I have a solution!

Most people in their 20s and 30s wouldn’t normally be caught dead walking into a cafeteria these days. But with gas prices going up, why not try a cheaper alternative at lunch and dinner? You have to eat early though, because they close at 8:30pm!

header

K&W Cafeteria serves really good, fresh, homemade food. It’s cheap, it’s fast, and it’s REALLY REALLY good. I visit the locations in Cornelius and Statesville in the lake norman area. They have been serving food for almost 70 years, so they must be doing something right! K&W started in Winston-Salem, NC.

Here is a link to their locations: http://www.kwcafeterias.com/locations.html

They offer over 100 different selections of food! Not only do they have almost every kind of cooked meats and fish (like hamburger, roast beef, chicken ala king, fried fish, etc) but they have great pastas, salads, desserts, breads, and more! It takes me about 20 minutes to get in and out, and that includes my eating time. FAST!

I think my average bill is like 6 dollars. I get about 2 or 3 cooked veggies and a meat, and sometimes a dessert, and a sweet tea. They have lots of diet drinks and low-cal stuff too. They publish their heart healthy items right in front of you while you are in line choosing.

I usually get roast beef or hamburger steak with a-1 sauce and then lima beans, fried okra, and a piece of pie or toasted garlic bread. sometimes I get mashed potatoes or black-eyed peas. Yum!!!

When trying to cut costs these days…think about new lunch and dinner choices!

Safari Miles – Denver NC – Lake Norman Restaurant Review   Leave a comment

Are you visiting Denver, NC and looking for a great place to eat? Check this place out! Cool name, great location, and excellent food.

If you love country cooking, cooked southern style vegetables, and greek specialties, then “Safari Miles” in Denver, NC is the place for you! It’s one of the staples in the lake norman area.

The Fotinos family takes great pride in offering great food at low prices. They offer foods like calamari, buffalo wings, shrimp, stuffed mushroom appetizers, and more. But you must really try their lunch specials which include Smoked gouda macaroni and cheese, chili, or french onion soup! My favorite is a blue plate of cooked vegetables!

They also have a selection of fine wines, beers, and cocktails and also offer a wide selection of fine cuts of beef and an excellent dinner dining experience.

Safari Miles is located at 390 Hwy 16N in Denver, NC and is open 7 days a week, with friday and saturday open till ??? http://www.safarimiles.com

Brooklyn Boys Pizzaria – Restaurant Review – Lake Norman Real – Cornelius   Leave a comment

This is a restaurant review for a great italian restaurant in Cornelius, NC. If you take a right into the lot after the Jetton Road light, then you will find it. Just off exit 28 on I-77. It’s sooo tasty!!!

I recently had some tasty pizza at Brooklyn South in Cornelius. I usually eat at the Brooklyn Boys in Mooresville, but I was in this part of Lake Norman so I decided to try it.

Pizzarias are owned by the same company. Many times I order the NY slice with pepperoni and extra cheese or the Spaghetti with meat sauce and melted cheese. Sometimes I get the garlic bread with cheese and the Greek Salad, but I WARN you, the salads are HUGE!!! You can feed three to four people on the salad and order a small pizza and be pretty full. The salads are so fresh and the atmosphere is friendly. The Spaghetti can feed two and the fresh baked bread they serve with it is fantastic!

I tried the same NY slice and salad at the Cornelius location and I received the same quality and service as I receive in the Mooresville location. I was pleased and full at the end of my meal!

CitySearch.com posted several reviews so I picked a few to post here so that you can get another point of view of the dining experience here.

User Reviews for Brooklyn South Pizzeria posted just recently:

11/15/2008

We try to get up to Brooklyn South whenever we can – food is amazing, atmosphere is great, and the staff is welcoming and friendly. Their pizza is out of this world, just about as close to something you’d find in a pizzeria on a corner in New York City somewhere. Their cannolis and Italian cookies (not sure whether they make them in house or get them from a bakery, but who cares, lol) are AWESOME, we make sure to get some whenever we go. Brooklyn South just catered a large function at our church as well – they were wonderful to work with to get all the details down, and the food was spectacular, we got rave reviews from everyone who attended. Chicken parm, baked ziti, garlic knots, salad, and Italian cookies were served and everyone attacked the food as soon as it got there. All I can say is YUM. Make sure to visit whenever you’re in Cornelius!!!!

Pros: Excellent food, good prices, great service

Cons: None that I can think of

03/20/2008

Being from the Buffalo area I’ve had a lot of slices of “Buffalo” pizza in my day, and I am always wary when I see my city in the title of a piece of food. I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pizza. The sauce had a good spice, and the combination of all the ingredients left a very good feeling in my palette. I ordered a side of blue cheese with my pizza for dipping purposes, and I’m happy to report that Brooklyn South Pizza knows what constitutes a good blue cheese, which is surprisingly hard to find in this area. My only complaint with the pizza was the fact that the name said Buffalo WING Pizza, but the meat was in actuality cooked chicken breast. In this day and age everybody know what they are getting when an order is placed for a Buffalo food item, but I feel that if wing is in the title there should be actual wing meat on the pizza, which is a very difficult process. Overall I was very happy with my dining experience, and I have now found a new spot to get good pizza. I give Brooklyn South Pizza a B+ on the Tasteville scale, and I can’t wait to try other items on the menu.

Wine Bar Review – Corkscrew – Huntersville – Lake Norman   Leave a comment

This is a review of a wine shop and bar located in Birkdale Village in Huntersville, NC

Corkscrew Bar & Wine Shoppe – a great Lake Norman rest stop after work

Interested in a glass of wine and some light cheeses or
hummus after work?
Well then, Birkdale Village
Corkscrew
is the place for you to unwind and uncork!

It’s right off exit 25 on I-77 and I give this place 5 stars
out of 5!

The Corkscrew in Huntersville, is a unique wine bar that
features a wall of wines by the bottle and a full menu of wines
by the glass for you to try. Unsure of your selection? Just ask
any of the bar keeps – they are extremely friendly and
knowledgeable about the wine flavors on hand.

Not only is the atmosphere really upscale and urban, but you
are within walking distance to many other restaurants to complete
your dinner meal. It’s a great stop after work or a prelude to a
wonderful dinner or movie at Regal Cinemas.

You can sit outdoors or inside. There is plenty to entertain
your eyes from the art work on the walls, to the television with
captions, or to the shoppers walking the village outside.

Corkscrew also offers some select beers and sparkling
champagnes if you are celebrating or looking for something a
little different too.

The Lake Norman Wine Group holds tastings there about once a
month. You can check out the schedule at www.lknwinegroup.com

Wine Loft Wine Bar Review – Mooresville NC – Lake Norman   Leave a comment

This is a review of a new wine bar business located in Mooresville, NC called The Wine Loft. It’s a very swanky place!

Wine Bar Review – The Wine Loft – Wine
Bar – Mooresville, NC

Need Directions? The Wine Loft is a new wine bar located in Mooresville in the
Harris Teeter Shopping Center off Perth Road. Take I-77N to exit 36 and go west
at top of ramp. Take right onto Perth Road and take your first right turn into
shopping center.

The Wine
Loft

130 Argus
Lane

Mooresville,
NC 28117

(704)
664-3230

www.thewineloftmooresville.com

The Wine Loft is an upscale wine
bar offering over 40 selections of wine by the glass and over 100 by the bottle.
In addition to the large selection of wines, sparkling wines, and dessert or
port wines; they also have a good selection of spirits and light cuisines. The
atmosphere is very swanky, upscale, and soothing. The lighting, comfortable
couches, and bar seating are perfect for entertaining or hanging out with
friends.

The Wine Loft has been featured
in the Wall Street Journal, Maxim magazine, & New York Times.

I had the lucky “chance” to hang
out with “Chanse”, the manager during the Wine Loft’s soft opening week and get
to taste some of the food and wines, and to check out the venue for a
future meetup place for my wine group www.lknwinegroup.com .

You really need to try the food
because what I tried so far was fabulous! I can’t wait to go back and try some
more items off the menu. Here is just a sampling of the tasty cuisine they
feature:

·
Baked Brie En Croute –Vanilla infused honey spiced pecans and
& balsamic reduction (THIS TASTES AMAZING!)

·
Artisan Cheese Selection –Roasted Garlic, toasted almonds, &
quince paste (I highly recommend this too)

·
Filet Pistolettes – Maytag blue cheese butter & sweet onion
jam

·
Proscuitto, Carmalized Onion & Fromage Blanc Pizzetti –
with Arugula herb salad

And for desserts:

·
Molton Lava Cake –
Vanilla infused honey & ice cream Quenelles

·
Coffee Crème Brulee –with Vanilla sugar and dark
chocolate

YUM!! The bar keep can make some
suggestions for you, but if you look on the inside menu, there are some printed
with prices with a wonderful description of the flavors and finish tastes.

The bar keeps had a lot of
friendly conversation and I found out everyone is new to the Lake Norman area so
we had much to talk about. I tasted a glass of Ravenswood Zinfandel Lodi for $8
per glass and also a glass of Stephen Vincent Pinot Noir Sonoma for $10 per
glass and both were delicious and fresh.

The Wine Loft offers:

·
Team Suggestions

·
½ price bottles every Tuesday

·
Tastings on Wednesday from 5:30-7:30

·
Host for Private Parties or Events from 10-150 people

Restaurant Reviews – Lake Norman   Leave a comment

I recently joined “Yelp”, a restaurant review web site. It’s really interesting to read what other people think about my favorite (and unfavorite) restaurants.

I’ve started writing my reviews on past experiences at these places. I am also able to review bars, businesses, retailers….so this should be a lot of fun for me and entertaining (hopefully) for you.

What’s this?
